Affiliate Disclosure
How this site makes money, stated before you need it rather than buried after.
How the links work
Every product link on this site goes through /go/ on our own domain, which redirects to the retailer with our tracking tag attached. Two consequences worth knowing:
- The retailer can tell that the visit came from us and pays a commission on a qualifying purchase.
- You pay exactly the same price you would have paid going there directly. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your total.
Every affiliate link carries rel="sponsored nofollow", opens in a new tab, and is marked #ad at the point of the click rather than only in the footer. Our Amazon Associates tracking ID is fafpackandporter-20.
The Amazon Associates statement
Pack & Porter is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
What we are not in, and what that means for you
Amazon is currently the only affiliate program we have joined. That is worth saying plainly because it has visible consequences on this site:
| Merchant | Status | What we earn |
|---|---|---|
| Away | Reference only | Nothing |
| Monos | Reference only | Nothing |
| Beis | Reference only | Nothing |
| Briggs & Riley | Reference only | Nothing |
| Tortuga | Reference only | Nothing |
Concretely: 1 product in our ledger is not sold through any program we belong to — Tortuga Travel Backpack Pro 40L. Those rows show “Not sold on Amazon” instead of a buy button, and we earn nothing if you go and buy one. They are on the site because leaving out the right answer to make the page more profitable would be the exact failure this disclosure exists to rule out.
What we do not accept
- Payment for placement. No brand has paid to appear here, and none can.
- Free products. We have never accepted one. We also have not bought any, which is the honest reason we make no testing claims.
- Pre-publication review. No brand sees a page before you do.
- Sponsored content. There is none on this site, and if that ever changes it will be labeled at the top of the page rather than in a footer.
- Our own products. We sell nothing. That removes the most common conflict in this category — a publisher ranking its own house brand inside its own roundup — because there is nothing of ours to rank.
Why commission cannot move the rankings
You do not have to take that on trust, and this is the part we would rather be judged on than a promise.
- The order is computed, not chosen. Every ranking is produced by four weighted axes over published specifications. The weights and breakpoints are published, so you can recompute any score yourself.
- Every roundup names a pick to skip. A ranking where everything wins is an advertisement. Ours each carry at least one product we explicitly tell you not to buy, with the published figures that explain why.
- We link things we earn nothing on when they are the right answer, and label them as such.
- Amazon pays the same rate across most of what we cover, so there is no per-product incentive to reorder anything even if we wanted to.
Prices and this disclosure
Prices on this site come from a live automated lookup and are shown with the date they were verified. When no fresh price exists, the button reads Check price rather than showing a number we cannot stand behind. A price you see here may have changed by the time you click, and the price on the retailer’s own page at that moment is the real one. Our price policy in full.
FTC
This disclosure exists to comply with the US Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements and testimonials, which requires that material connections between a publisher and a seller be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. That is why the disclosure appears above the first affiliate link on every page rather than only here, and why every buy button is marked #ad.
