What this site is
An independent publisher of research and opinion about travel gear. Everything here is informational. We do not sell products, we are not a retailer, and we are not an agent of any brand or carrier.
Scores and rankings are our editorial assessment, computed from published specifications by a method we publish in full. They are not review ratings and they are not based on physical testing — we have not tested any product here.
Accuracy and its limits
We take reasonable care: every figure is read from a named source and carries the date it was read. But we cannot warrant that the information is complete, current or error-free, and specifically:
- Airline limits change without notice. Our tables are re-checked monthly and dated per row. Always confirm with the carrier before you travel.
- Manufacturer specifications change. A revised model can carry the same name and different dimensions.
- Prices change constantly. Any price here is either a live lookup shown with its verification date, or a published list price labeled as such — never a guarantee of what you will pay.
- We may simply be wrong. If you find an error, tell us and we will correct and re-date it.
Nothing here is professional advice. Decisions you make on the basis of this site — including what to buy and whether a bag will be accepted at a gate — are yours.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fathom & Foundry is not liable for any loss arising from use of this site, including baggage fees, gate-check charges, purchases that did not suit you, or reliance on a figure that has since changed. The site is provided “as is” and without warranties of any kind.
Affiliate relationships
This site earns commission on qualifying purchases made through its links, at no extra cost to you. That relationship is disclosed above the first affiliate link on every page and in full on the affiliate disclosure. It does not affect rank order, which is computed by a published formula.
When you follow a link to a retailer you leave this site and that retailer’s terms and privacy policy apply. We are not responsible for anything that happens there, including pricing, availability, delivery, returns or warranty claims.
Using our content
The written content, rankings and page design on this site are ours and are protected by copyright. Photographs are licensed from third parties and are credited individually on the image credits page — their licenses, not ours, govern reuse.
You may, without asking:
- Quote a reasonable extract with clear attribution and a link to the page it came from.
- Cite our compiled airline-limit data with attribution and a link. It is reference data and we would rather it were used correctly than not at all.
- Link to any page here, from anywhere, without permission.
You may not:
- Republish pages in full, or substantially reproduce a ranking.
- Scrape the site at a volume that burdens it, or ignore robots.txt.
- Present our content as your own, or strip attribution from data taken from here.
AI crawlers are explicitly permitted — every major one is allowed in our robots.txt, and llms.txt exists to make the site easier to summarize correctly. If a model is going to answer questions about carry-on limits, we would rather it read our dated, sourced tables than something written in 2023.
Acceptable use
Do not use the contact form to send unsolicited commercial messages, attempt to interfere with the site’s operation, or submit anything unlawful. The contact endpoint is rate-limited to 5 submissions per hour per address for that reason.
Changes
These terms may change. Material changes are reflected in the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change means accepting the revised terms.
