JetBlue Baggage Rules
Most carriers publish no weight limit and say nothing about it. JetBlue states plainly that it has none - which is a different and more useful thing.
We have not tested this gear. Every figure here is compiled from published manufacturer specifications and published airline policies, and the arithmetic is public so you can check it. This page contains affiliate links — see the affiliate disclosure.
JetBlue publishes 22 × 14 × 9 in for the carry-on and 17 × 13 × 8 in for the personal item. It also states plainly that it has no carry-on weight restriction — an explicit statement rather than a silence, which changes what you can safely pack.
Figures from JetBlue’s own published carry-on bags page, checked 3 September 2026.

The published limits
| Allowance | JetBlue's published limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Carry-on | 22 × 14 × 9 in | Including wheels and handles |
| Personal item | 17 × 13 × 8 in | 1,768 cubic inches — the middle of the US range |
| Carry-on weight | Explicitly none | Stated, not merely omitted |
Stated versus omitted
Seven of the eleven US carriers we track publish no cabin-bag weight limit. Six of them simply do not mention weight. JetBlue says there is no restriction.
That distinction is worth more than it sounds. An omission leaves room for a gate agent to apply judgment about a bag that looks heavy; an explicit statement does not. If you are packing something dense — books, camera equipment, tools — the difference between “unmentioned” and “none” is the difference between a conversation and no conversation.
JetBlue pairs the statement with the practical caveat that you still have to lift the bag into the bin yourself, which is the real limit on any carrier that publishes no number. Which carriers publish a weight cap.
What no weight limit actually changes
On this site the weight of an empty bag is normally a significant purchase criterion, because on a carrier publishing 25 lb or 10 kg the empty case eats a large share of your allowance before you pack.
| Empty case weight | Against Hawaiian's 25 lb | Against Ryanair's 10 kg | On JetBlue |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4.43 lb | 18% used | 20% used | Irrelevant |
| 9.3 lb | 37% used | 42% used | Irrelevant |
So on JetBlue specifically, the case for paying a premium for a light bag largely evaporates — and the case for buying on durability and fit gets correspondingly stronger. That points at heavier, better-built cases that would be a poor choice on a weight-capped carrier. The durability ranking.
The caveat is the obvious one: this is a JetBlue-specific conclusion. If your itinerary connects onto anything international, the weight column comes straight back.
The personal item
At 17 × 13 × 8 in, JetBlue’s under-seat box is 1,768 cubic inches — larger than United’s 1,530 and smaller than American’s 2,016. It sits in the middle of the US range and it is a genuinely usable size.
Note the shape rather than just the volume: JetBlue’s box is narrower and deeper than American’s, so a wide flat bag sized for American may be over on width here even though it is smaller overall. All the boxes compared.
Bags whose published dimensions fit JetBlue's carry-on box
Bags whose published dimensions fit JetBlue's 22 x 14 x 9 in carry-on box on all three sides. Weight is not a constraint here, so this list is purely about the box.

What to buy for JetBlue
- Buy on fit and durability, not on weight. JetBlue is the carrier in our table where a heavier, better-built bag costs you nothing.
- The box is still the standard. No weight limit does not mean no size limit — 22 × 14 × 9 in is enforced the same way it is anywhere.
- Check the personal item on width, not just volume. 13 in is narrower than American’s 14.
- If the trip connects internationally, ignore all of the above and size for weight as well. What to buy for that.
Every pick, with the working
Each entry below shows the published inputs, the four axis scores they produce, and what you give up. The order is the computed order, not a commercial one.
1 · One-bag travel on any carrier that measures
Osprey Farpoint 40 Travel Pack
40 L that fits the standard 22 × 14 × 9 in box on height and depth, weighs 3.27 lb, and carries a warranty with no stated end date. It is the strongest single row in this ledger.

- Weight per liter
- 0.08 lb/L

- Published list price

Warranty All Mighty Guarantee — any reason, any product, any era
Fits 4 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, G4, SY. See the limits.
What it does well
- 0.08 lb per liter is the best carry efficiency figure on this site
- The All Mighty Guarantee names no failure cause and no time limit
- 21.7 in height clears the 22 in standard with room to spare
What you give up
- 13.8 in width clears 14 in only when the pack is not overstuffed — soft bags grow
- No wheels, so a long terminal is carried on your back
- $9.25 per covered year is good but not the cheapest here
The arithmetic behind the score
- Value 7.2/10 — $185 ÷ 20 yr = $9.25/yr; $185 ÷ 40 L = $4.63/L
- Airline-fit breadth 3.6/10 — Fits the published carry-on limit at 4 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, G4, SY
- Carry efficiency 8.7/10 — 3.27 lb ÷ 40 L = 0.082 lb/L
- Warranty & support 10.0/10 — no stated end date (6 of 6); repair published (+2); covers airline damage (+2)
Weights and breakpoints are published on how we rank. Where an input is not published, that axis is dropped and the remaining weights are re-normalized.

2 · A hard shell that survives being sat on by the bag above it
Samsonite Omni PC Carry-On Spinner (20 in)
The most widely sold polycarbonate carry-on in America, and the one whose published height actually meets the 22 in standard — the width is what fails it.

- 7.05 lb

- Published list price

Warranty Limited 10 year global warranty
Fits 4 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, G4, SY. See the limits.
What it does well
- Full polycarbonate, which flexes under impact and returns rather than shattering
- $12.75 per covered year
- 22 in published height meets the standard US carry-on height exactly
What you give up
- 15 in width and 9.75 in depth are both over the 14 × 9 in standard
- 7.05 lb of the 25 lb Hawaiian cap is gone before you pack
- Published price varies by colorway, which makes the value figure a moving target
The arithmetic behind the score
- Value 7.6/10 — $127.49 ÷ 10 yr = $12.75/yr
- Airline-fit breadth 3.6/10 — Fits the published carry-on limit at 4 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, G4, SY
- Carry efficiency not scored — No published capacity, so weight per liter cannot be computed.
- Warranty & support 4.0/10 — 10 yr (4 of 6); no published repair route (+0); airline damage not covered (+0)
Weights and breakpoints are published on how we rank. Where an input is not published, that axis is dropped and the remaining weights are re-normalized.
Specs: Samsonite published specifications and price, compiled 3 September 2026. Samsonite's own store published $101.99 to $127.49 across colorways on 3 September 2026. The higher figure is used here so the value arithmetic is not flattered.
3 · Frequent flyers who check a carry-on at the gate often
Travelpro Platinum Elite Carry-On Spinner (21 in)
The only bag in this ledger whose published warranty covers airline handling damage once the bag is registered — which is the single most expensive thing that happens to luggage.
- Published size
- 23.5 × 14.5 × 9 in
- Weight
- 7.8 lb
- Capacity
- 46 L
- Weight per liter
- 0.17 lb/L
- Cost per covered year
- $19.50/yr
- Published list price
- $390
Warranty Built for a Lifetime limited worry-free warranty
Fits 3 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, SY. See the limits.
What it does well
- Published warranty covers damage caused by an airline when the bag is registered
- Same 46 L capacity as the Maxlite 5 in a heavier, more heavily built shell
- Repair rather than replacement is the published first remedy
What you give up
- $390 published price is the highest here — $19.50 per covered year against the Maxlite 5's $8
- 7.8 lb before anything goes in it, against a 25 lb cap on Hawaiian
- 23.5 in overall height fails the 22 in limit at six of the eleven US carriers we checked
The arithmetic behind the score
- Value 3.2/10 — $390 ÷ 20 yr = $19.50/yr; $390 ÷ 46 L = $8.48/L
- Airline-fit breadth 2.7/10 — Fits the published carry-on limit at 3 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, SY
- Carry efficiency 5.2/10 — 7.8 lb ÷ 46 L = 0.170 lb/L
- Warranty & support 10.0/10 — no stated end date (6 of 6); repair published (+2); covers airline damage (+2)
Weights and breakpoints are published on how we rank. Where an input is not published, that axis is dropped and the remaining weights are re-normalized.

4 · Hawaiian's 25 lb carry-on cap, and anyone lifting a bag overhead unaided
American Tourister Airconic Carry-On Spinner
Skip this one. Skip the reason you would normally buy it. The Airconic is the lightest hard case in our ledger at 4.43 lb, and on a carrier that publishes no weight restriction that advantage is worth nothing. Its 15.8 in width is over JetBlue's box by 1.8 in, which is worth a great deal.
At 4.43 lb it is the lightest hardside carry-on in this ledger by nearly a pound, which matters most on the carriers that publish a weight cap.

Warranty Limited 10 year global warranty
Fits 4 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, G4, SY. See the limits.
What it does well
- 4.43 lb empty leaves over 20 lb of payload inside Hawaiian's 25 lb published cap
- Polypropylene flexes and returns where ABS cracks
- 7.9 in depth is the slimmest here, which is what actually decides a tight bin
What you give up
- 15.8 in width fails the 14 in limit at six US carriers
- No published price, so we cannot compute cost per covered year
- Light shells transmit more impact to what is inside them
The arithmetic behind the score
- Value not scored — No manufacturer-published price, so this axis is not scored.
Specs: American Tourister published specifications, compiled 3 September 2026. American Tourister lists the Airconic on its own store but did not publish a price we could read on 3 September 2026, so the Value axis is not scored for this bag.
5 · Flying carriers that actually measure, and packing light on purpose
Rockland Melbourne Hardside Spinner (20 in)
The only bag in this ledger whose published dimensions clear every single US carrier's carry-on limit — because it is genuinely small.
- Published size
- 20 × 13 × 10 in
- Weight
- 7.5 lb
- Capacity
- Not published
- Weight per liter

- Cost per covered year
- Not published
- Published list price

Warranty 5 year limited warranty (published terms vary by retailer)
Fits 4 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, G4, SY. See the limits.
What it does well
- 20 × 13 × 10 in clears the published carry-on limit at all eleven US carriers here
- 43 linear inches, comfortably inside Delta's 45 linear inch cap
- Expandable, so the small footprint is a floor rather than a ceiling
What you give up
- Published warranty term differs between sources, which is its own warning
- 7.5 lb for a case this small is a poor weight-per-volume trade
- ABS shell at the cheapest end of the material ladder
The arithmetic behind the score
- Value not scored — No manufacturer-published price, so this axis is not scored.
- Airline-fit breadth 3.6/10 — Fits the published carry-on limit at 4 of 11 US carriers: WN, F9, G4, SY
- Carry efficiency not scored — No published capacity, so weight per liter cannot be computed.
- Warranty & support 2.5/10 — 5 yr (2.5 of 6); no published repair route (+0); airline damage not covered (+0)
