Samsonite Omni PC vs Winfield 3 DLX
Samsonite's two polycarbonate carry-ons sit a few tenths of an inch apart and carry the same warranty. One publishes a price. The other fits one more airline - and it is not the one you would guess.

The Omni PC, on published figures. It is a fifth of an inch shorter, which is what puts it inside Allegiant’s box as well as Southwest’s, Frontier’s and Sun Country’s — 4 US carriers against the Winfield’s 3 — and Samsonite publishes a price for it, so its $12.75 per covered year can be checked. The Winfield 3 DLX is the narrower bag and the better answer only if you find it cheaper.

Same shell material, same warranty, same brand, 0.08 lb apart. On paper these are close to the same product, which is exactly why the two places they differ decide the whole page.
The taller bag fits fewer airlines, even though it is narrower
This is the result that surprises people. The Winfield is half an inch narrower and a quarter-inch shallower — genuinely closer to the 14 × 9 in part of the standard box — and it still satisfies one fewer carrier.
The reason is that a sizer is pass-or-fail on all three sides, and the side the Winfield loses on is height. At 22.25 in it is over Allegiant’s published 22 in ceiling; the Omni PC, at exactly 22 in, is not. Allegiant’s box is wide and deep (22 × 16 × 10 in) but not tall, so a quarter-inch of height is the difference between fitting and not. Allegiant’s published box.
Neither case clears the strict 22 × 14 × 9 in limit that seven US carriers publish. Both are over on width; both are over on depth. What does clear the strict box.
One of them has a price you can check
Every ranking on this site is driven by published price against published warranty years. Samsonite published $101.99 to $127.49 across colorways for the Omni PC on 3 September 2026 — we use the higher figure so the value arithmetic is not flattered — and nothing at all for the 20 in Winfield 3 DLX.
That is not a small footnote. It means the Omni PC can be scored on value and the Winfield cannot, and it means the only honest thing to say about the Winfield’s value is: check the price on the day and do the division yourself. What polycarbonate buys, on both
Both shells are published as 100% polycarbonate, which is the material answer that matters most on a hard case. Polycarbonate flexes under impact and returns; ABS, the cheaper shell on budget cases, is more likely to crack and stay cracked. The shell materials, compared.
Both also publish the same 10-year global warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship, and neither publishes cover for airline handling damage — which is the way most cabin bags actually get broken, on the trips where they end up gate-checked. What happens at the door.
The verdict
- Buy the Omni PC if you want the decision made on published numbers: $127.49, $12.75 a year, 4 of 11 carriers, exactly 22 in tall. Its con: 15 in of width is the widest of the two and it is 0.08 lb heavier.
- Buy the Winfield 3 DLX if you find it cheaper on the day and you fly Southwest, Frontier or Sun Country, where the extra quarter-inch of height costs you nothing. Its con: no published price, and the height that loses Allegiant.
- Buy neither if you fly American, Delta, United, Alaska, JetBlue, Hawaiian or Breeze and you want to stop thinking about sizers. No hard case in this ledger clears their box.

Samsonite Winfield 3 DLX Spinner (20 in)
Skip this one. Skip it unless you find it materially cheaper than the Omni PC on the day. Samsonite published no price for the 20 in Winfield 3 DLX on 3 September 2026 — only for the large spinner in the same line — so the value arithmetic that drives every ranking on this site cannot be run on it at all. It is also the taller of the two, which costs it one carrier of fit breadth for the half-inch of width it wins back.
The closest any polycarbonate case in this ledger gets to the 22 × 14 × 9 in standard box, missing it by a quarter-inch of height and half an inch of width.
