A set is three decisions
Every piece in a set has a different job and a different published limit to meet.
- The carry-on has to fit the 22 × 14 × 9 in box six US carriers publish — or at least the roomier ones you actually fly.
- The medium and large have to stay inside 62 linear inches, the checked limit almost every US carrier publishes.
- All of them are warranty decisions — and a set is the one purchase where the warranty term multiplies across several bags at once.

Four of five pieces fail the rule they are meant to meet. Only the Travelpro 25 in passes. That is not unusual — set carry-ons are routinely sized a little larger than the strictest box, and set large cases routinely stretch past 62 inches to publish a bigger capacity. The carrier boxes.
Travelpro publishes two sets of numbers
Worth flagging honestly. Travelpro’s set page publishes the 21 in carry-on at 23 × 15 × 9 in and 51 L, and the 29 in at 8.5 lb. Its single-piece pages publish the 21 in at 23 × 14.5 × 9 in and 46 L, and the 29 in at 8 lb. We show each figure where Travelpro publishes it rather than pick the more flattering one. The carry-on fails the strict box on either set of numbers.
Does the set save money?
Travelpro publishes the set at $580 regular and the 21 in carry-on alone at $160. So inside the set, the 25 and 29 in cases together account for $420. We have no published single price for those two pieces to compare that against, so we cannot tell you the set is a saving — only what it costs.

A lifetime warranty across three bags
Travelpro publishes its limited warranty as covering defects in materials and workmanship including wheels, zippers and handles — the three parts that actually fail — plus a 100 day trial. Across three pieces that is the most valuable published term in this comparison. Samsonite publishes 10 years for the Freeform line. Warranty as a proxy for lifespan.
The alternative: buy the pieces you need
Most travelers use one carry-on constantly and a large case a couple of times a year. Buying those two individually, each chosen against its own rule, often beats a set on fit:
