The Best Travel Potty

Every one of these fits a carry-on, which is unusual for this hub. The question is not whether it fits - it is how much of the bag it eats, and what it makes you keep buying.

Buy the OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty. It folds to a published 0.99 in thick — 123 cubic inches, about 4% of a carry-on box — which is the only figure that matters when the potty has to travel inside a bag you are already filling. The trade is that standalone use needs disposable bags, and OXO sells the refills separately. Buy the My Carry Potty instead if you want no consumable at all: its published sealing lid carries the contents, and that independence costs eight times the packed volume.

Manufacturer-published listing specifications, compiled 25 October 2026. Packed volumes below are computed from those published dimensions. Only three of the four publish a weight. Prices on the buy buttons are live.

OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty

Unusually for this section, all four fit

Most of the bulky child gear this site measures does not clear a carry-on box. The travel high chairs clear the published box at one US carrier out of eleven, or none. A travel crib is a checked item by definition.

Travel potties are the exception. Run against each carrier’s published carry-on limit, on all three sides, all four of these clear all eleven US carriers. The largest is 15.35 in on its longest side against a 22 in limit.

So fit does not decide anything here, and this page does not pretend otherwise. What decides it is how much of the bag the thing eats, and that varies by a factor of eight across four products that do the same job.

The four, as published and as computed

Published figures from each maker's listing, compiled 25 October 2026. Packed volume is the product of the three published dimensions; share is against the standard 22 x 14 x 9 in carry-on box (2,772 cubic inches). The OXO figure is its published folded size.

Why the OXO is in a different size class

Three of these four are tubs with legs. They collapse a little, but a tub is a tub: the Ingenuity publishes 5.83 in of depth, the Nuby 6 in, the My Carry Potty 5.51 in. They pack like a mixing bowl.

The OXO publishes 0.99 in. It is a flat folding frame rather than a container, which is why it needs a bag to function as a standalone potty — the bag is the container. Folded it slides down the back of a bag like a laptop, and at 123 in³ it takes less room than a toiletry bag.

What “2-in-1” actually means, and why it matters abroad

Three of the four publish a second mode: the potty opens out and sits on top of a full-size toilet as a toddler-sized seat. That is not a marketing extra on a trip. A newly trained toddler faced with an adult-sized public toilet seat is the most common way a trip undoes months of progress.

  • OXO Tot — published nonslip grips, and published to sit on both round and elongated bowls. Bowl shape is the detail that catches people out: a seat that only fits one shape is half a feature.
  • Ingenuity — published to fold its legs out and sit on an adult toilet.
  • Nuby — published detachable legs and a seat-attachment mode.
  • My Carry Potty — no second mode. It is a sealed one-piece potty, and that is the cost of the sealing lid.

The consumable nobody prices in

A bag-based potty is a razor-and-blades product. The frame is bought once; the bags are bought forever. Published inclusions differ, and the difference is real:

  • Nuby publishes 20 disposable bags in the box — the largest starter supply here, and the one thing it genuinely leads on.
  • Ingenuity publishes a travel bag and liners included.
  • OXO sells its refill bags separately. The travel bag is included; the consumable is not. Budget for it from day one rather than discovering it on the first morning of a trip.
  • My Carry Potty publishes no consumable at all. The sealing lid is the whole product.

None of this appears on a spec sheet as a cost, which is exactly why it is worth writing down before you buy. A potty you cannot use because you ran out of bags in a rental apartment on a Sunday is a potty you carried for nothing.

Packing one for a flight

  • It is not a liquid, a battery or a restricted item. A plastic potty carries no checkpoint rule of its own; it is simply volume, which is why the packed figures above are the whole story.
  • Put it in the checked bag if you are checking one. At 23–37% of a carry-on box, three of these four are a meaningful chunk of cabin allowance for something you will use on the ground.
  • The OXO is the exception. At 4.4% it is small enough to live in the cabin bag without a decision, which on a family trip is worth more than it sounds — see packing for a family trip for how the allowances actually add up.

Which one, and who should skip it

  • Flying, carry-on only: OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty. Published 0.99 in folded, 123 in³. Skip it if you will not reliably keep refill bags in stock.
  • Road trips, or nowhere to bin a bag: My Carry Potty. Published sealing lid, no consumable. Skip it if cabin space is tight — it is 37% of a carry-on box and does not fold.
  • A first travel potty, cheaply: Ingenuity My Travel Potty. Published 0.964 lb, bag and liners included. Skip it if you want the flat-packing trick, which only the OXO does.
  • Nuby Go Potty: see the skip note on its card below — the Ingenuity is lighter, smaller and cheaper for the same function.

Every pick, with the working

Each entry below shows the published inputs, the four axis scores they produce, and what you give up. The order is the computed order, not a commercial one.

1 · Carry-on-only family travel where the potty has to vanish into a bag

OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty

5.6

It folds to a published 0.99 in thick, which is the whole argument: 123 cubic inches is roughly 4 percent of a carry-on box, and no other potty here comes close to disappearing like that.

What it does well

  • Published 0.99 in folded thickness - it packs like a laptop, not like a bucket
  • 123 cubic inches folded, about 4 percent of a carry-on box
  • Published to work both as a standalone potty and as a seat cover on a public toilet

What you give up

  • Publishes no weight at all, the only pick here that does not
  • Standalone use is published as requiring disposable bags, which are a consumable you keep buying and carrying
  • Refill bags are sold separately rather than included
The arithmetic behind the score
  • Value not scored — No manufacturer-published price, so this axis is not scored.
  • Airline-fit breadth 10.0/10 — Fits the published carry-on limit at 11 of 11 US carriers: AA, DL, UA, WN, AS, B6, F9, G4, HA, MX, SY
  • Carry efficiency not scored — No published capacity, so weight per liter cannot be computed.
  • Warranty & support 0.0/10 — no published term (0 of 6); no published repair route (+0); airline damage not covered (+0)

2 · Road trips and places with nowhere to dispose of a bag

My Carry Potty Travel Potty

5.6

The only pick here that carries its own contents. A published sealing lid means no bags, no liners and nothing to find a bin for - and it costs you 1,033 cubic inches, which is eight times the folded OXO.

What it does well

  • Published leak-proof sealing lid, so it needs no bags or liners at all
  • The only pick here with no consumable attached to it
  • Published extra-tall splashguard and non-slip feet

What you give up

  • 1,033 cubic inches - 37 percent of a carry-on box, and eight times the folded OXO
  • Published 1.87 lb, the heaviest here
  • It does not fold, so that volume is the same whether it is in use or not

3 · A first travel potty, where cost and weight both matter

Ingenuity My Travel Potty (2-in-1)

5.6

The lightest potty here at a published 0.964 lb, the cheapest, and the only one that publishes both a travel bag and liners in the box - which is the combination that makes it the sensible default.

What it does well

  • Published 0.964 lb - the lightest pick here, and under half the My Carry Potty
  • Travel bag and liners both published as included rather than sold separately
  • 645 cubic inches, the smallest of the three that do not fold flat

What you give up

  • 645 cubic inches is still five times the folded OXO
  • Liners are a consumable, so the included set is a starter rather than a solution
  • No warranty term published

4 · Someone who wants a bag supply included and does not mind the bulk

Nuby Go Potty 2-in-1

5.6

Skip this one. Skip it because the Ingenuity beats it on every published figure. Nuby publishes 692 cubic inches and 1.5 lb at a higher price; Ingenuity publishes 645 cubic inches and 0.964 lb for less, and includes a travel bag alongside its liners. The twenty disposable bags in the Nuby box are a real inclusion and the only axis on which it leads - which is not enough when the alternative is lighter, smaller and cheaper for the same two-in-one function.

Twenty disposable bags in the box is a genuinely useful inclusion, and everything else about it is published as larger and heavier than the Ingenuity sitting next to it at a lower price.

What it does well

  • Twenty disposable bags published as included, the largest starter supply here
  • Published detachable legs rather than a folding hinge, which is one less thing to break
  • Published integrated splash guard

What you give up

  • 692 cubic inches against the Ingenuity's 645, for the same two-in-one function
  • Published 1.5 lb against the Ingenuity's 0.964 - more than half a pound heavier
  • Published at a higher price than the lighter, smaller Ingenuity

Common questions

What is the best travel potty?
The OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty for anyone flying, because it folds to a published 0.99 in thick - 123 cubic inches, or about 4 percent of a carry-on box, which is roughly an eighth of what the sealed alternatives take. The trade is that standalone use needs disposable bags and OXO sells the refills separately.
Do travel potties fit in a carry-on?
All four compared here do. Checked against the published carry-on box at all eleven US carriers in this site's airline table, every one clears on all three sides - the largest is 15.35 in on its longest side against a 22 in limit. That makes travel potties unusual among bulky child gear, where travel high chairs clear one carrier at best. The real question is how much of the bag they take: between 4 and 37 percent.
Is a folding travel potty or a sealed one better?
It depends entirely on whether you will have somewhere to put a used bag. A folding potty packs to about an eighth of the volume but only works with disposable bags inside it. A sealed potty like the My Carry Potty publishes a leak-proof lid and needs no bags at all, which is worth its 1,033 cubic inches on a road trip and hard to justify in a carry-on.
Can a travel potty be used on a public toilet?
Three of the four here publish that second mode: the potty opens out and sits on a full-size toilet as a toddler-sized seat. OXO additionally publishes nonslip grips and states that it fits both round and elongated bowls, which is the detail that decides whether it works in an unfamiliar restroom. The sealed My Carry Potty has no second mode at all.
How much does a travel potty weigh?
Between about 1 and 2 lb for the three that publish a figure: Ingenuity 0.964 lb, Nuby 1.5 lb and My Carry Potty 1.87 lb. OXO publishes no weight for its folding potty at all. Weight is rarely the constraint in this category - packed volume is, and that varies by a factor of eight.
